Intern - Locomotive Field Service
Progress Rail, a Caterpillar Company, is a leading provider of railroad products and services. The Locomotive Field Service Intern will learn various aspects of locomotive service and maintenance while assisting experienced technicians and contributing to the development of training materials and documentation.

Responsibilities
Assist in creating work plans and systems documents for locomotives
Analyze data from our LTS data base
Train under experienced technicians to understand how a locomotive works
Work safely on customer property, following all safety rules
Train and test on our locomotive build procedures
Create training documents and videos of systems
Communicate information in a timely manner
Effective train and work on mechanical & electrical system of a locomotive
Maintain records of work performed
Research/co-ordinate special tool and material requirements
Adhere to all policies and procedures that relate to a designated facility
Ensure good safety practices and housekeeping
Work with minimal supervision, but with supervisor available for questions
Travel to different Manufacturing facilities of Progress Rail to understand our manufacturing process
These May include Muncie Indiana, Marshalltown Iowa, Winston Salem, North Carolina and Mayfield Kentucky
Create videos of how a locomotive system works
Assist in the development an Engine overhaul document
Qualification
Required
Pursuing a degree in electrical or mechanical engineering
Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher
Solid foundation of both mechanical and electrical systems
Analytical Ability where problems are complex
Demonstrated some Electrical and Mechanical Competence
Interpersonal Skills to work effectively with others
Computer skills (Microsoft office), power point, excel
Working background in safe work procedures and history of compliance
Travel as required. Travel may be as long as a week at a time
Strength – This is a mixture of traditional office setting and shop locations and requires the occasional lifting of weight of up to 50lbs
Motion – Requires the use of a computer, keyboard and other equipment. Employee will be sitting the majority of the day with occasional walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling and driving
Vision/Hearing Requirements – Must be able to communicate with customers and coworkers and utilize all office equipment
Work Environment – Work is in office sitting and shops, may be exposed to extremes of heat and cold. The position may require some work on the manufacturing floor that could expose candidate to all environmental aspects
Emotional Demands – Employee is expected to quickly pick up tasks in a fast-paced office environment and maybe required to give presentation, speak in public and work in teams
Safety – This is not a safety sensitive position. The position will require the use of all site-specific PPE
Preferred
Spanish is an asset, both written and spoken
