Generator Field Service Technician

Stowers Machinery Corporation is seeking a Generator Field Service Technician to diagnose and repair generator systems and electrical components. Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair generator engines, alternators, control systems, and electrical components
Perform preventative maintenance including inspections, fluid changes, adjustments, and testing
Conduct load bank testing and verify generator performance under operating conditions
Troubleshoot electrical faults, wiring issues, and control panel malfunctions
Document all findings, parts used, and repair actions in work orders
Communicate equipment condition, repair recommendations, and job status to supervisors and customers
Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and safe condition
Follow all safety procedures and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards
Support emergency service calls and after‑hours work when required
Support less experienced technicians by sharing knowledge and proper diagnostic techniques
Promote a safe, organized, and efficient work environment
Assist in training new technicians on generator systems and service procedures
Represent the company professionally during customer interactions

Required

Understanding of diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, and generator controls
Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals
Proficiency with diagnostic tools, multimeters, load banks, and service software
Strong communication skills for interacting with customers, supervisors, and team members
Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues independently
Knowledge of safety procedures, lockout/tagout, and electrical safety practices
High School Diploma or equivalent required

Must meet requirements for driving company vehicles
Work performed in primarily field environments with exposure to noise, machinery, and weather conditions
Some shop work may be required
Frequent interaction with technicians, supervisors, and customers
Fast‑paced environment requiring adaptability and strong communication
Standard work schedule with potential overtime, on‑call rotations, and emergency response needs

Preferred

Experience working with power generation equipment, transfer switches, or industrial electrical systems
Familiarity with Caterpillar generator systems and dealer service processes
Certifications or training in electrical systems, power generation, or diesel technology
Technical training or an Associate degree in diesel technology, electrical technology, or a related field preferred
Hands‑on experience with generator diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, and engine repair
Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify root causes quickly
Familiarity with Caterpillar ET, power generation software, and related diagnostic tools
Ability to work independently in both shop and field environments
