Responsibilities

Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity requiring judgment and ingenuity to modify procedures and approaches within current policies and practices related to applications of materials, equipment or processes in the manufacturing, rework and repair of aerospace products
Reviews plans for new product and factors such as strength, weight, and cost to submit material selection recommendations ensuring attainment of design objectives. Confers with producers of materials such as metals, ceramics, or polymers during investigation and evaluation of materials suitable for specific product applications
Assists in planning and implementing laboratory operations to develop material and fabrication procedures for new materials to fulfill product cost and performance standards. Develops or uses computer software and hardware to conduct tests on chemicals, fuels, and processes
Monitor and assist in directing and controlling operational, functional, and performance phases of tests. Confers with scientific, engineering, and technical personnel to resolve testing problems such as product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data and data interpretation
Reviews product failure data and interprets laboratory tests and analyses to establish or rule out material and process causes. Examines composite and metal material samples, components and parts using nondestructive and destructive inspection technology to detect delaminations, internal abnormalities, impurities and failure analysis of materials
Develops and writes technical specifications to control material properties and manufacturing or repair processes. Specifies procedures for cutting, shaping, and otherwise preparing the basic material considering product specifications, economic and producability factors
Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications and departments other than the primary assignment
