Senior Traffic Engineer - Special Events
City of Boston is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer for Special Events who will supervise the review, approval, and coordination of special use permits. The role involves coordinating with various city departments and ensuring compliance with traffic rules and regulations for special events.

Responsibilities
Creates standard operating procedures, business process models, and workflows for the Permits and Special Events Unit
Reviews and maintains maintenance records of work performed for data completeness and accuracy
Tracks critical path workflows related to program and project management
Provides technical guidance and performs reviews of transportation management plans, reports, concept designs, stamped engineered plans, drawings, and technical specifications for special events
Prepares engineering reports, analysis, and recommendations for the Supervising Traffic Engineer for Asset Management
Supports contract administration of the Permits and Special Events Unit contract and assists with procuring supplies and services
Attends meetings as a representative of the Department and works with internal and external stakeholders to implement special events
Works with Supervisors in other departments at a Cabinet level
Performs related work as required
Qualification
Required
Applicants must have at least five (5) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical or professional experience in engineering work of which at least three (3) years must have been in a professional capacity and at least one (1) year have been a supervisory, managerial or administrative capacity or any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below
Working knowledge of the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) Transit, Street, and Urban Bikeway Design guides, MassDOT's Separated Bike Lane Planning and Design Guide, Boston Complete Streets Guidelines, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), and relevant American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) guidelines
Ability to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including other City departments, public agencies, private consultants, and advocacy groups
Working knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices, and terminology applicable to the design of highway facilities; construction materials, specifications, and costs as applicable; and supervisory principles and practices
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement special events operations plans
Proficiency with cloud-based productivity suites such as Google Workspace or Microsoft Office programs is required, and experience with collaboration and work management software applications is required
Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills
Must be willing to travel within the City of Boston
Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job
Boston Residency Required
Preferred
A degree in Engineering is preferred and may be substituted for two years of the required experience
Experience implementing new technology and hardware is preferred
Current Massachusetts driver's license preferred
