LEGAL SECRETARY I / PROSECUTING ATTORNEY
St. Charles County Government is seeking a Legal Secretary I / Prosecuting Attorney to provide legal support and trial preparation. The role involves managing case documents, coordinating schedules, and ensuring proper filing and compliance with legal procedures.
Responsibilities
Enters warrant applications, opens cases, and closes cases in case management systems
Enters various confidential information relating to prosecution
Scans or uploads all documents, photographs, videos, and other electronic media into case management systems
Prepares, transcribes, and edits legal documents to be used in trials and legal proceedings
Electronically files documents with the court through the Missouri Case.net system
Orders, retrieves, subpoenas, reviews, scans, uploads, and redacts confidential information and documents including but not limited to criminal histories, warrant applications, medical and scientific records, photos, videos, and assessments
Reviews and troubleshoots the viewing of electronic media for all staff and prosecutors. Contacts places of origin for electronic media to troubleshoot the viewing of media for use in prosecution
Prepares court and hearing schedules. Maintains and coordinates calendars. Checks trial dockets, enters and tracks dates for trials, hearings, court announcements, and other proceedings
Prepares discovery and meets with law enforcement officers and defense attorneys when necessary
Verifies all discovery has been ordered/received and sent to defense attorneys
Sends transcripts to witnesses for signatures or corrections. Provides witnesses with proper information necessary to prepare for trial. Calls off witnesses when necessary
Runs and reviews criminal histories and other information using REJIS, CJIS, MULES, DWITS, ACOM, and other electronic systems. Enters DWI information into DWITS. Orders certified records/priors and authenticated priors
Schedules depositions
Creates, files, organizes, scans, and retrieves files from various locations in the office, archives, and numerous data bases. Shreds files, documents, and electronic media
Trains other staff as needed. Instructs staff in the operation of various computer systems. Prepares instructional materials for staff
Answers and directs incoming telephone calls as appropriate
Maintains and coordinates calendars
Backup for receptionist, including telephone and public windows
Accepts, processes, and applies payments for restitution and delinquent tax
Opens, files, and takes appropriate action on delinquent tax cases, garnishments and restitution matters
Generates restitution/collection correspondence to defendants and victims
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
General/technical high school diploma or GED equivalent
Legal secretarial training
REJIS and CJIS certification may be required within one year of employment
1-3 years of experience
Legal secretarial experience
Employment is dependent on successfully passing a full criminal background check
Preferred
Knowledge of Prosecutor by Karpel and Missouri CaseNet preferred
Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Professional including creating and modifying PDFs
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
