Reaction Kinetics - Postdoctoral Researcher
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher with a strong background in spectroscopic analysis to conduct research on corrosion mechanisms at metal surfaces. The role involves designing and performing advanced analytical experiments and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to develop corrosion models.

Responsibilities
Perform fundamental and applied experimental work in the field of surface science
Participate in understanding the fundamental surface and interface properties of corrosion using state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation and techniques
Contribute to and actively participate in the conception, design, and execution of research to address complex problems
Pursue independent but complementary research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally to the Laboratory
Collaborate with scientists in a multidisciplinary team environment to accomplish research goals
Document and publish research in peer-reviewed journals and participate in domestic and international conferences
Perform all assignments in accordance with ES&H, security, and business practice requirements and policies
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level clearance which requires U.S. citizenship
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or closely related field
Experience with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Auger electron spectroscopy, or similar spectroscopic techniques
Experience combining multi-instrument data sets (e.g., XRD, IR, and SEM) to interpret complex research samples
Experience with theory and modeling of surface chemical reaction mechanisms and kinetics
Ability as an innovative experimentalist with a broad range of experience in experimental design, techniques, and execution
Experience performing self-directed research, presenting talks at conferences and a record of publishing results in established scientific journals
Proficient written, verbal, and organizational skills necessary to effectively collaborate within small and large work groups
Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a diverse set of scientists, engineers, and other technical and administrative staff
Preferred
Experience applying other surface science techniques (e.g., ToF-SIMS)
Experience with complex analysis of actinide compounds
Experience with responses of materials in extreme environments, which can include irradiation, pressure, corrosion, or non-ambient temperatures
