Director of Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning
Midland Industries is seeking a Director of Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning (SIOP) to lead the company's SIOP process. This role involves ensuring alignment between sales demand, inventory strategy, supply capabilities, and financial objectives, while driving cross-functional collaboration and improving forecasting methodologies.
Responsibilities
Own and lead the monthly SIOP cycle, including monthly reconciliation, demand review, supply review, inventory planning, and executive SIOP meetings
Establish and maintain SIOP governance, decision rights, KPIs, and escalation protocols
Ensure alignment between commercial forecasts, operational plans, inventory targets, and financial commitments
Translate business strategy into executable demand, inventory, and supply plans
Partner closely with Sales and Product teams to develop accurate, unbiased demand forecasts at the customer, product, and channel levels
Implement a monthly consensus process with Sales
Incorporate market intelligence, customer insights, promotions, pricing actions, and new product introductions into demand plans
Challenge assumptions and drive accountability for forecast accuracy and bias reduction
Continuously improve forecasting methodologies and sales engagement in the planning process
Define and manage inventory segmentation strategies, including ABC/XYZ classifications and service-level targets
Optimize safety stock, reorder points, and inventory positioning across the distribution network
Balance customer service expectations with working capital efficiency and margin objectives
Lead initiatives to reduce excess and obsolete inventory while protecting service levels
Implement annual inventory forecasting and monthly reporting
Evaluate inventory stagnate at remote DC locations and rebalance as appropriate
Work closely with Sales and Product teams to action excess and obsolete inventory
Partner with Procurement, Operations, and key Suppliers to align supply plans with demand signals and cut PO’s
Identify and mitigate supply risks, back-order mgmt., capacity constraints, and lead-time variability
Lead scenario planning and contingency strategies to support business continuity
Utilize remote inventory when evaluating supply planning
Support supplier collaboration and performance improvement initiatives
Work closely with Sourcing regarding minimum order quantities that support the required DIO strategy
Align SIOP outputs with financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes
Quantify trade-offs between revenue growth, margin, inventory investment, and service levels
Track and report key performance indicators including forecast accuracy, inventory turns, fill rate, OTIF, and working capital
Implement executive reporting and forecasting
Prepare and present SIOP insights, risks, and recommendations to executive leadership
Implement a planning tool to manage demand and seasonality
Support the design and implementation of the system
Leverage ERP, planning, and BI tools to enable a scalable and disciplined SIOP process
Lead data quality improvement and master data governance efforts related to demand and inventory planning
Drive continuous improvement through analytics, automation, and adoption of best practices
Support system enhancements, upgrades, and increasing SIOP process maturity
Support the acquisition and integration of new businesses into the SIOP process
Work closely with manufacturing to assist with creative supply/inventory options
Build, develop, and lead a high-performing SIOP, planning and buying organization
Manage 6 to 10 people
Establish clear performance goals, development plans, and accountability
Foster a collaborative, fact-based culture focused on continuous improvement and results
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, Engineering, or related field
8–12+ years of progressive experience in SIOP, demand planning, inventory planning, or supply chain leadership
Experience in industrial distribution, manufacturing, or complex multi-SKU environments
Proven success implementing or leading an enterprise SIOP process
Strong cross-functional leadership and executive communication skills
Advanced analytical capabilities and comfort working with large datasets
Preferred
MBA or advanced degree
APICS/ASCM certifications (CPIM, CSCP, IBF)
Experience in PE-backed, high-growth, or transformation environments
Hands-on experience with ERP and planning tools; P21 (preferred), SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Kinaxis, Anaplan, Blue Yonder, etc
