ADA Coordinator (Administrator III) Term Limited Temporary/Special Duty

NEOGOV is seeking a skilled and dedicated ADA Coordinator to lead compliance efforts with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in correctional facilities. The role involves managing ADA policies, ensuring accessibility, and resolving related issues while collaborating with various stakeholders to promote an inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

Act as the main contact for jail residents, staff, and external parties regarding ADA-related issues and complaints
Handle ADA-related grievances by interviewing relevant parties, reviewing documentation, and assessing situations to ensure compliance with ADA regulations
Support staff and associated personnel in delivering services to jail residents, including evaluating requests for reasonable accommodations
Lead and manage projects aimed at enhancing accessibility in facilities, services, and technology. This includes defining project scope, establishing timelines, coordinating resources, and monitoring progress to ensure all ADA compliance requirements are met effectively and efficiently
Coordinate the implementation of technology and services which expand ADA accessibility, with some potential overlap in expanding LEP (limited English proficiency) accessibility options as well
Analyze data related to accessibility needs and compliance. Prepare reports and presentations for senior management and stakeholders, providing insights and recommendations for ongoing improvements and initiatives
Assist in the development, implementation, and review of organizational policies and procedures to ensure they align with ADA regulations and best practices for accessibility
Collaborate closely with other departments, such as Public Health - Jail Health Services and the Facilities Management Department
Respond to urgent and emergency ADA issues concerning accessibility and jail residents
Develop, oversee, and ensure the implementation of programs and policies that promote accessibility for individuals with disabilities across the organization. This includes but is not limited to conducting assessments and facilitating training to create an inclusive environment
Serve as the department’s ADA subject matter expert
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Familiarity with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and other local and federal civil rights laws
Experience working with individuals with disabilities and understanding the community's unique needs
Experience conducting ADA assessments, audits, or similar evaluations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse communities
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to balance ADA requirements and operational constraints
Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws
A combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the work

Preferred

Understanding of correctional services and the unique challenges of implementing ADA accommodations within a correctional facility
Possess an ADA Coordinator certification
Experience within the criminal justice system, coupled with extensive tenure in County or State government. This type of experience lends to a unique understanding and perspective, particularly in navigating the intricate dynamics of the governmental landscape
Desired languages include Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian and Somali
