Electrical Plans Examiner (Full-Time)

The City of Hollywood is seeking an Electrical Plans Examiner to inspect electrical plans and enforce compliance with the Florida Building Code. The role involves reviewing development operations, consulting with various stakeholders, and ensuring public safety through adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

Works for the Building Official under the direct supervision of the Chief Electrical Inspector, conducts Electrical Plan review for compliance with the Florida Building Code and other State Statutes
Consults with architects, engineers, general, specialty contractors and homeowners on building plan review, to effectively streamline the permitting process
Performs systematic site inspections of skilled trades work for new and existing construction within the City, to ensure compliance with all applicable City, State and Federal code and regulatory requirements in the electrical trade
Verifies compliance with approved building permits, plans and specifications; reviews and approves work of completed projects
Collaborates with independent contractors and subcontractors, engineers, architects homeowners, and internal administrative support to ensure all required documentation is completed and submitted for approval of requested permits and licenses
Reads and interprets blue prints and specifications for construction plans and designs, reviews proposed plans for conformance to applicable codes and regulations
Investigates complaints regarding alleged code violations; evaluates and identifies code violations and delineates corrective measures
Identifies compliance problems and issues code violations; meets with violators and general public to explain and interpret applicable codes and advises violator of expected time frame to correct infraction; performs re-inspection to determine if corrections have been made to achieve compliance
Reviews, maintains and updates all files, documents, records and reports of inspections activities and findings
Communicates with Chief Electrical Inspector and the Chief Building Official on any electrical problems, code issues or regulatory requirements that have not been resolved
Maintains current knowledge of trends and regulatory developments for application to functional areas under charge; attends annual continuing education courses for re-certification
Provides assistance and support to technical Inspectors with moderately complex issues
Attends seminars and training courses to stay informed on new developments in the related field and to obtain current information of code changes
Must effectively and positively represents the City in delivering and performing work with colleagues and clients, irrespective of gender, race, religion, age, disability, political affiliation or belief, or sexual orientation
Must establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors and managers

Required

High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver's License
Must be certified, as required by the State of Florida BCAIB, as an Electrical Plans Examiner and as an Electrical Inspector
Engineers are exempt from BCAIB only
Must be certified by Board of Rules and Appeals and meet at least one of the following qualifications: An Engineer in the discipline requested and having practiced for a minimum of five (5) years within the State of Florida
An Electrical Inspector serving for a minimum of one (1) year for an AHJ or school board within the State of Florida and who complies with at least one (1) of the qualifications listed below: An Engineer in the discipline requested
Five (5) years construction experience in the electrical discipline in a supervisory capacity and possess a Certificate of Competency as a Master Electrician or Electrical Contractor
Five (5) years construction experience in the electrical discipline and five (5) years' experience as an Electrical Inspector certified by BCAIB and possess a Certificate of Competency as a Master Electrician or Electrical Contractor
Seven (7) years construction experience in the electrical discipline and possess a Certificate of Competency as a Journeyman Electrician
Ten (10) years' experience as an Electrical Inspector certified by BCAIB
Each of the applicants shall possess a current Certificate of Competency as a Master Electrician Contractor or Electrical Contractor issued by at least one of the following entities: Florida Electrical Contractors Licensing Board, Broward County Central Examining Board of Electricians, Miami-Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board, Block proctored, issued on or after January 1, 1968, Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation as an Engineer
Valid Driver's License: With proof of automobile insurance
Background Check: Must have an acceptable background record
Driving Abstract: Must have an acceptable driving record
