Public Utility Auditor - Entry, Senior, or Advanced

The State of Wisconsin is seeking a Public Utility Auditor to join the Public Service Commission in the Division of Energy Regulations and Analysis. This role involves planning and performing municipal utility rate case and compliance audits, with responsibilities varying based on the level of the auditor from entry to advanced.

Responsibilities

Planning and performing municipal utility rate case and compliance audits
Performing and assisting on routine and complex rate case audits
Holding companies and affiliated interest filings and participating on special studies
Independently planning and performing routine municipal utility rate case and compliance audits
Assisting with complex audit rate cases, fuel reconciliations, and fuel cost plans
Serving as a case coordinator, devising and implementing the audit program, reviewing working papers, and providing technical assistance on accounting and financial matters
Managing, planning, and performing complex energy utility rate case audits
Performing lead worker functions and reviewing working papers
Providing technical assistance concerning advanced accounting and financial matters, and performing special studies for both the industry and the accounting discipline

Qualification

Generally Accepted Accounting PrinciplesData analysis in ExcelUtility industry experienceForecasting dataPolicy developmentTechnical communicationTeam management

Required

Presenting technical information to technical and non-technical audiences through written or verbal communication
Working with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Working in Excel, or a similar product, to complete tasks such as manipulating spreadsheets to analyze data, updating and maintaining spreadsheets with accurate data, and/or utilizing the product to accomplish basic accounting analysis with basic formulas

Preferred

Experience and/or education in the utility industry, such as regulatory principles or regulatory accounting
Experience forecasting data or numbers
