Transportation Engineer III, or IV - Design Support - Design Division - Austin, TX

The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Engineer III or IV to join their Project Delivery Section in the Design Division. The role involves performing advanced and complex transportation engineering work, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, and coordinating on large highway projects.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts
Develops, recommends, and implements modifications as necessary for continual improvement to existing program of responsibility
Interprets manuals and required guidelines for traffic operations
Makes presentations and represents TxDOT
May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks
Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements
Negotiates fees, explains scope of work, and monitors consultant design contracts
Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions
Prepares correspondence and/or detailed engineering surveys
Provides design engineering support for districts in project development
Represents the district/division at technical meetings
Leads/trains engineering staff and professional staff
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Develops short-term and long-term goals and coordinates planning activities and resources required to meet goals
Performs highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts
Performs highly advanced and complex planning work such as plan review and calculations
Serves as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work
Acts in an advisory capacity on administrative, technical, regulatory and engineering aspects of transportation
Assesses and reports actual project progress versus planned progress to determine trends and variances for complex projects
Evaluates the performance of new transportation products
Negotiates fees and budgets, develops and negotiates scopes of work, negotiates contract work schedules, and negotiates other contract agreements
Updates, reviews, monitors, and/or reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and/or standard sheets
Writes reports and specifications

Required

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS
6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience for Transportation Engineer III
7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience for Transportation Engineer IV
Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle
TX Licensed Prof Engineer
Safety Impact Certificate
Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent
Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis
Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment
