Responsibilities

Represents the State of Washington and the best interests of children in all intrastate and interstate parentage litigation, modification of child support orders, contempt of court proceedings against non-paying parents in all child support actions referred by the Department of Social and Health Services/Division of Child Support and protects the State’s monetary interests in other Family Law litigation
Provides legal services for the Division of Child Support: conducting legal research and analysis; investigating income of parents and calculating child support; drafting and reviewing legal documents; keeping up to date on federal, state, and local laws and rules; maintaining confidentiality; complying with strict security standards; appearing in Superior Court in multiple counties for hearings and trials; and using superior judgment in all aspects of child support work

Required

Must be a current member in good standing of the Washington State Bar Association; OR must be a current member in good standing of another State Bar Association AND must become a member of the Washington State Bar Association by passing the Washington State Bar exam within one year from date of hire; OR be eligible to be admitted to practice with a limited license under APR Rule 9 AND pass the Bar within 1 year from date of hire
Must have a driving record that meets County standards and possess a valid driver's license at time of hire and throughout employment
Background check must meet Elected Prosecutor's criteria
Required to successfully complete all continuing legal education requirements as mandated by the Washington State Bar Association, which includes 13 hours general and 2 hours of ethics credits per year throughout employment

Preferred

Trial experience in criminal law is preferred
Spanish language fluency is desired
Spanish language fluency is desired
