Service Technician - Fire Suppression

The Service Technician - Fire Suppression is responsible for installing, inspecting, and repairing kitchen hood fire suppression systems and portable fire extinguishers while ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Responsibilities

Perform inspections, testing, and maintenance (ITM) on extinguisher and kitchen hood fire suppression systems in accordance with NFPA standards and other applicable codes
Evaluate, troubleshoot, and repair suppression systems and associated devices
Hydrostatic test and recharge cylinders when required
Complete accurate documentation of all inspections, deficiencies, and corrective actions
Clearly communicate findings and recommendations to customers and provide cost-effective repair solutions
Respond to emergency service calls, including after-hours, as needed
Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicle in proper working condition

Required

High school diploma or equivalent
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, system drawings, and technical manuals
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem solving skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills, customer service skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Must meet all Illinois State Fire Marshal licensing requirements to inspect, service, and maintain suppression systems and portable fire extinguishers
Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and cylinders weighing up to 50 lbs frequently
Regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and reaching overhead
Visual acuity and manual dexterity to service small system components
Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures, dust, and noise
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE, when required

Preferred

Technical training preferred
Experience in kitchen hood fire suppression system and/or fire extinguisher service, installation, or inspection is preferred
