Responsibilities

Must interpret in sight, consecutive and simultaneous modes in court proceedings, high-profile trials or complex court and legal proceedings, quasi-judicial hearings, complementary dispute resolutions events, and other court related events in person or via Video Remote Interpreting and/or telephone

Must possess advanced proficiency in Video Remote Interpreting. Capable of assessing VRI needs and solutions. Must be comfortable using two-device and hybrid interpreting methods

Prepare and provide interpreting training, including orientation seminars for prospective interpreters, as well as annual trainings and VRI webinars

Participation in study and training activities in a group or individually to develop and maintain interpreting, translating and VRI skills

Producing translations of documents (either in draft or final form) and assisting in voice over projects, as requested

Utilize automated record-keeping systems to keep track of activities and utilize SharePoint to organize projects

The above examples of work are to be performed by utilizing Spanish or English, as required, depending on the needs of the individual persons communicated with during the course of official duties

Required

Court interpreters approved by the New Jersey Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC)

Passed the written and performance oral exams of the National Center for State Courts administered by the AOC or an equivalent test administered by a member state of the National Center for State Courts

Possess the Federal Court Interpreter Certification from the Administrative Office of the United States Courts

Pass the translation test administered by the AOC prior to translating documents

Possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position

Authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations

Agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting

Establish and maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey within one year of being hired
