Responsibilities

Own end-to-end delivery of complex engineering initiatives, driving predictable, high-quality outcomes aligned with business priorities

Provide hands-on technical leadership when required, acting as custodian for system architecture, design decisions and critical components

Lead design reviews, address technical debt and ensure systems meet non-functional requirements such as security, reliability, and performance

Collaborate closely with Product, Tech Leads, and peer Engineering Managers to plan, prioritise and negotiate trade-offs across scope, quality and timelines

Manage cross-team dependencies and risks, ensuring alignment and transparency throughout delivery

Drive operational excellence by tracking execution metrics, improving engineering practices and maintaining a sustainable delivery pace

Lead and grow high-performing teams through coaching, performance management, career development and recruitment

Influence beyond your pod by contributing to group-wide engineering standards, resolving cross-team challenges and sharing best practices

Required

Strong engineering foundation with a graduate or post-graduate degree in a relevant discipline

Extensive experience of delivering large-scale enterprise software with modern engineering practices

Proven engineering leadership experience, leading and motivating cross-functional teams using Agile/XP methodologies

Deep technical expertise across Java, Angular/JavaScript, distributed systems, object-oriented and system design, and building scalable, high-availability applications

Comprehensive understanding of the full SDLC, including CI/CD automation, testing strategies, application security, monitoring, logging and performance optimisation

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with experience resolving complex architectural and operational challenges

Excellent communication skills and a strong product mindset, capable of engaging technical and non-technical stakeholders and enabling customer-focused outcomes
