IANA Services Specialist
ICANN is responsible for coordinating the Internet’s unique identifiers through its IANA Department. The IANA Services Specialist will deliver services and support special projects while ensuring accuracy in processing requests from global stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Independently process both routine and specialized requests from global stakeholders in one or more IANA functional areas (e.g., managing the DNS root zone, assigning number resources, and making protocol parameter assignments for IETF standards), with minimal supervision
Switch between multiple systems, business processes, and tasks, each with unique rule sets and requirements, while maintaining accuracy and meeting service levels
Evaluate and validate incoming requests for accuracy and consistency with current policies, involving subject matter experts when necessary
Ensure technical information complies with established technical requirements
Consult with subject matter experts and collaborate with colleagues to respond to IANA-related inquiries
Gather and analyze data to prepare formal reports for staff briefings, ICANN stakeholders, and partners; independently produce reports after training
Prepare internal reports related to specific requests
Establish and maintain internal documentation on key IANA Services processes and propose improvements as appropriate
Be available 24x7 on-call in rare emergency cases affecting critical infrastructure managed by IANA, ensuring appropriate escalation and resolution
Participate in special projects as assigned
Qualification
Required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Service-oriented communication skills
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills with the ability to manage diverse tasks simultaneously
Self-motivated team player with the ability to work independently
Ability to follow documented procedures while exercising independent judgment and discretion in analyzing requests
Proactive problem identification, solution proposal, and escalation when appropriate
Ability to understand broader implications of complex issues, including impacts on service level agreements, policy requirements, and operational processes
Bachelor's degree or equivalent demonstrated skill set required
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a professional environment with a degree; equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Fluency in spoken and written English required
Preferred
Broad knowledge of and experience with the Domain Name System (DNS) and fundamentals of Internet addressing preferred
Prior international experience and/or work in a multi-stakeholder environment preferred
