Staff Accountant (Payroll & General Ledger)

Broward Children's Center is a medical and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization seeking a Staff Accountant to support their day-to-day accounting operations. This role involves processing payroll, assisting with reconciliations, journal entries, billing integrations, and financial reporting while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

Responsibilities

Process biweekly payroll by reviewing and validating employee time records, pay rates, deductions, and approvals; submit payroll accurately and on time; reconcile payroll reports to the general ledger; and resolve discrepancies in compliance with internal controls, labor laws, and organizational policies
Assist with month-end close, including journal entries and account reconciliations
Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
Assist with medical billing integration, ensuring charges, payments, and adjustments align with the general ledger
Reconcile billing system data (EMR/EHR or billing software) to accounting records
Track expenses by program, grant, cost center, and funding source
Assist with Medicaid, Medicare, and AHCA-related cost report schedules
Maintain organized documentation for audits, grants, and compliance reviews
Follow internal controls and nonprofit accounting best practices
Perform other accounting and finance support tasks as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
2–3 years of accounting and payroll experience (internship or healthcare/nonprofit exposure a plus)
Basic understanding of (GAAP) General Acceptance Accounting Practices and nonprofit accounting
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, (pivot tables, formulas)
Strong reconciliation and analytical skills
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn

Preferred

Exposure to medical/non-profit accounting
Familiarity with QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar systems
Knowledge in processing payroll and familiarity with Paycom or other payroll systems
Understanding of fund accounting, grants, or restricted funds
Experience supporting audits or cost reports
Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, or state funding programs
