Managing Engineer – Electrical
The University of Missouri-Columbia is seeking a Managing Engineer in Electrical to support the MU Energy Management team. This role involves providing engineering support for utility production systems, project engineering for repairs, and ensuring compliance with industry standards while overseeing the operation of electrical systems.

Responsibilities
Provide engineering support for proper operation and repair of utility production electrical and control system equipment that supports the operation of the MU Power Plant, Chiller Plants and Water Wells
Provide project engineering support for repair projects of electrical and process control systems. Ensure repairs meet codes, standards, and best practices
Provide planning and scheduling for equipment outages minimizing the impact to utility production
Work with Architect/Engineering consultants on capital project designs
Prepare capital plans for future renovations and equipment replacements
Provide engineering designs for repairs or modifications of process control and auxiliary electrical systems
Ensure proper interface between electrical, mechanical and process control equipment
Analyze potential engineering solutions using experience, judgments and precedence, providing input and recommendations
Coordinate and complete electrical system studies including fault current, coordination and arc flash analysis
Maintain inventory of necessary electrical spare parts
Develop specifications and procure electrical and process control parts and equipment including breakers, motors, variable frequency drives, motor control centers
Inspect or direct the inspection of electrical equipment, utilizing diagnostic tools as required
Oversee electrical equipment calibration, testing, maintenance and repair including equipment associated with emissions monitoring
Work with maintenance supervisors and process control technicians to ensure instruments readings are accurate and reliable
Coordinate with utility computing staff for the operation, maintenance and expansion of process control networking
Assist the utility computing staff to ensure HMI equipment is functional and maintained
Assist operations staff with new or repaired equipment start-up and commissioning
Support maintenance supervisors to prioritize and manage workload
Provide technical advice to operations and maintenance supervisors in planning preventive and corrective work
Support frontline employees with technical expertise in troubleshooting and solving problems
Work with outside contractors during construction to ensure utility production needs are met
Work with engineers in project management and design services as needed for the success of the operation
Assist in the development and writing of plant operational procedures and policies
Provide supervision of Process Control and Electrical assigned staff
Promote and enforce plant safety and all safety programs including LOTO & Arc Flash
Correct safety deficiencies
Maintain and update records of plant electrical systems, including maintenance and inspections
Utilize electronic work order system
Assist with record keeping and reporting as necessary, and assigned
Qualification
Required
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Licensure or certification may be required
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent accredited engineering discipline with comparable knowledge and experience
Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain PE registration
Demonstrated knowledge and hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: Electrical system maintenance, including motor control centers, motor starters, variable frequency drives, and electric motors up to 400 HP
Instrumentation and process controls
Reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, P&ID drawings, and one-line/three-line electrical diagrams
Experienced with NEC and NFPA 70E
Working knowledge of electrical systems operating at 13,800V, 480V, and 120/208V
Familiarity with power generation, steam production, and chilled water systems
Knowledge of SKM and CYME software analysis tools
