Responsibilities
Completes customer orders by turning the water on and off for new and old accounts. Check meters for leaks, check electronics; must be able to communicate with customers about water issues and be able to determine whether the problem is with the customer’s line or the city’s side. Determine electronic reading transmitter problems and if the meters are dead or working properly; read meters manually and electronically; bending over, squatting, collecting meter readings accurately daily
Turning water off for non-payment and overdue extensions
Maintains meters by changing the meters; replacing the registers and electronics on the meters. Also changing out the large meter lids
Performs clerical duties by using the computer to type correspondences; enter orders and data pertaining to work load throughout the day
Maintains and installs meter boxes. Also replaces water valves that are under high pressure
Climbing 6 or more feet in meter vaults using ladders and safety equipment
Will perform confined space entry duties
Regular and dependable attendance is required
All other duties as assigned by a supervisor/manager within your department/division
Qualification
Required
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or plumbing processes
Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency
One Year of experience
Valid Driver's License required
Must obtain a basic water 'D' license within 6 months
Must obtain a 'C' class water distribution license within 18 months
Preferred
Experience with cutting torches a plus (not required)
