Mechanical Design Engineering Scientist Associate

Responsibilities

Design, analyze and develop sonar/navigation/underwater robotics equipment using SolidWorks and SolidWorks Simulation
Create drawings, assembly instructions, and other supporting documentation for systems
Assist in the assembly and testing of equipment
Participate in data collection exercises, data management, and analysis
Support the installation and testing of equipment in field locations
Other related functions as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or other related field
Demonstrated ability to design and document complex systems using CAD programs
Applicant must have a demonstrated ability to follow design and testing standards
Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized, capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks, and managing their time
This position will require attention to detail, effective problem solving, sound engineering judgment, and good communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision, and effectively communicate with all groups of clients
Applicant must be able to work under pressure and accept supervision with regular and punctual attendance
US Citizen
Selected applicant is subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at level appropriate to project requirements of the position

Preferred

Master's degree in mechanical engineering
Two or more years of applicable development using SolidWorks and performing finite element analyses (static, thermal, buckling, etc.)
Familiarity with PDM document management system
Experience with designing underwater systems and robotics systems for use in US Navy applications
Experience with electronics and control systems
Experience with adhesives, molded parts, electronics packaging, cabling, and other electro-mechanical design
Demonstrated knowledge in any of the following: statics analysis, material analysis, thermal analysis, vibration, Finite Element Analysis, corrosion, fluid dynamics, acoustics
Experience with technical writing, such as project proposals and/or technical presentations
Hands on experience with hand tools, power tools, machining (mill, lathe, laser cutter, etc.)
Prior work experience in professional or research oriented development
Prior military experience
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills
Cumulative GPA of 3.0
