Administration - Accounting Manager

Volunteers of America Northern California and Northern Nevada is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping those in need. The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and ensuring compliance with accounting regulations while providing support to program directors and staff.

Responsibilities

Recruit, supervise, and train Payroll, AR, AP, Revenue Accounting positions
Review and approve timecards, time off requests, schedules
Conduct performance reviews and provide mentoring
Organize/plan departmental events (team building, birthdays, etc.)
Assist with technical issues for all payroll system related issues
Review payroll for accuracy
Ensure payroll is fully funded
Review data entry and all receipts entered
Work with AR Accountant on collections
Review data entry and all payments prepared for processing
Review credit card statements and receipts
Review/approve all contract billing invoices
Meet with programs regarding contract budget spending
Manage contract revenue tracking spreadsheet
Manage positive pay and exceptions
Manage agency credit cards (new users, limits, replacements, etc.)
Work with Senior Staff Accountant on posting errors and reclasses
General ledger analysis and statistics
Ensure all internal reporting deliverables are met and documented on the server
Assist in monitoring visit requests
Provide 990 data support
Serve as backup for Payroll, Receivables, Payables, Revenue Accountants as needed
Document and report all concerns and/or infractions that can impact the program security
Provide audit support as necessary and requested by Controller
Secure approval for exceptions to standard policy
Notify management of potential workflow problems and resource needs necessary to attain performance standards
Communicate with on-site staff, Program Directors, employees, and product/service providers as required
Comprehend and adhere to ethical standards, program philosophy guidelines, and confidentiality laws as well as employee handbook
Assist with the training of temporary agency staff for accounting needs
Assist in maintaining/updating computerized accounting system
Continually learn and enhance technical and interpersonal skills
Participate in both internal and external training as needed for growth and development

Required

Bachelor's degree in accounting
At least five years accounting experience
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to perform computerized accounting
Payroll processing
Accounts receivable/payable and insurance processing
Excel spreadsheets and double-entry accounting
Willingness to accept responsibility and do repetitive and routine work
Good judgment and tact in handling confidential information
Ability to provide services to employees and clients without ethnic or social prejudices
Flexibility to work irregular hours
Willingness to function as a team member
Valid California driver's license
Ability to meet our insurance carrier's guidelines
Computer data input
Strong math ability
Teamwork skills
Oral and written communication skills
Organizational skills
Analytical and decision-making ability
Lift and move up to 15 pounds
Physically able to lift boxes of files
Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and sit frequently
Kneel occasionally

Preferred
