Responsibilities
Collects and updates accurate insurance information from patients in the hospital’s billing system
Follows up on pre-certifications for inpatient admissions
Notifies insurance carriers of patient admissions
Processes applications for: Charity Care, NJ Family Care, Presumptive Eligibility, Public Assistance inquiry forms
Educates patients on New Jersey State healthcare programs, including: Presumptive Medicaid, NJ State Medicaid, NJ Family Care, Charity Care
Ensures all activities respect patient confidentiality and access to care rights
Delivers service in a courteous, professional manner aligned with Five Star Customer Service standards
Performs cross-functional duties within the Financial Counseling and Charity Care units of Patient Accounts
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible clerical experience
At least one (1) year must be in a physician's office, hospital billing office, or insurance company
Experience must involve billing, collections, or medical insurance activities
Prior experience working in a computerized environment is required
Preferred
Familiarity with medical terminology
