Senior Supervisory Community Supervision Officer
CSOSA is responsible for community supervision of adult offenders in Washington, DC. The Senior Supervisory Community Supervision Officer acts as a senior advisor, overseeing program initiatives, managing staff, and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
Serves as senior advisor to the Branch Chief responsible for researching and identifying complex program issues or problems impacting program initiatives in OCSIS organizational branch
Evaluates current activities and recommends appropriate actions
Prepares and delivers oral presentations to the Branch Chief and other management officials
Reviews and audits branch operations for compliance with policies and procedures
Prepares and reviews statistical reports
In his/her absence, acts as Branch Chief or Supervisory Community Supervision Officer as deemed appropriate by the Branch Chief
Performs the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised
Plans, schedules, and assigns work to subordinates
Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff members; provides feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance
Provides advice, counsel, and/or instruction to staff members
Recommends or approves appointments, selections, or reassignments to positions appropriate to the selection authority delegated
Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area
Carries out Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and program activities
Investigates the background of criminal offenders to identify factors that determine their level of risk related to offender supervision
Assesses the offenders need for assistance and reviews their progress under supervision
Performs case management services for individuals referred to program resources
Tracks social services program participation through an automated case management system
Identifies appropriate social service assistance programs for criminal offenders and works with community partners to provide services that focus on decreasing recidivism rates
Qualification
Required
Must be a U.S. Citizen or National
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
Background security investigation, drug test, and favorable adjudication
May be required to successfully complete a one year probationary period (unless already completed)
Time-in-grade requirements must be met within 30 calendar days of the closing date of this announcement
This position is covered under federal law enforcement retirement provisions, Public Law 100-238
Successful completion of a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in the behavioral or social sciences, or in a related discipline that included at least 24 semester/36 quarter hours in the behavioral or social sciences; OR
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field; OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of a GS-12 within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required
Supervising a group of employees by performing a broad range of managerial functions including human resource management functions, establishing guidelines and performance expectations for staff members, observing and evaluating staff performance, providing informal feedback, resolving informal complaints and grievances, developing work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary, and effecting disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area
Reviewing pertinent information and reconciling conflicting data
Devising new or modified methods of analyzing findings
Developing new initiatives in one or more program areas
Directing and managing staff to ensure that all assigned cases for supervision and investigation are entered in the information system timely and accurately
Ensuring programs are in place to effectively monitor offenders compliance with the conditions of parole, probation, or supervised release
YOUR RESUME MUST REFLECT DEMONSTRATED SPECIALIZED AND SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE
Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement
Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-12 or higher grade in Federal Service
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social)
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications
You MUST provide transcripts or other documentation to support your educational claims
Official or unofficial transcripts are acceptable, or you may submit a list with all of your courses, grades, semester, year, and credit for the course
If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society
One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study
If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program
