Engineering Inspector

Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District is seeking an Engineering Inspector responsible for conducting field inspections of public and private development construction. The role involves ensuring compliance with approved plans and specifications while coordinating with various stakeholders and assisting in plan review and contract administration.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Perform inspections of construction sites to verify compliance with approved engineering plans, specifications, and town standards
Monitor the installation of public infrastructure, including roadways, sidewalks, stormwater systems, and utilities
Document inspection findings and maintain accurate records of construction activities
Coordinate with contractors, developers, and other stakeholders to address compliance issues and facilitate project progress
Review and interpret construction plans, specifications, and related documents
Ensure that construction activities adhere to safety regulations and environmental requirements
Assist in the development and implementation of inspection procedures and protocols
Conduct on-site inspections of active construction projects
Communicate with contractors and developers regarding inspection results and required corrective actions
Update inspection logs and prepare daily reports documenting site visits and observations
Respond to inquiries and concerns from the public related to construction activities
Provide input on engineering standards and participate in the review of proposed projects
Compile and submit comprehensive inspection reports summarizing project compliance and progress
Participate in project meetings to discuss inspection findings and coordinate with project teams
Review upcoming project plans and provide feedback on potential compliance issues
Assist in training sessions or workshops related to construction standards and inspection procedures

Required

Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a closely related field
Minimum of two (2) years' experience in construction inspection, civil engineering, or a related field
Or, an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Valid North Carolina Driver's License
Ability to detect and locate defective materials and workmanship during the progress of a project
Ability to compile comprehensive reports on various phases of construction and review for accuracy, completion, and conformance to established procedures
Ability to learn the Town's ordinances, rules, and regulations
Ability to adapt to changing situations demonstrating flexibility and use of logical and practical courses of actions to meet Town and department goals and objectives
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and exercise good judgment when addressing the public
Ability to physically perform assigned duties; and perform work under adverse field conditions
Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, and maneuver materials weighing up to 25 pounds
