Responsibilities

Quickly identify key issues in a case and gain a rapid resolution with supervision and with latitude for independent judgment
Prepare and litigate administrative hearings and grievances including: preparing charges, requesting investigations, negotiating settlements, and appearing at Hearings to represent NYCHA
Answer routine inquiries from managers, opposing counsel and Borough management on assigned cases
Conduct legal research on complex cases and prepare memoranda
Maintain computer records in the Case Management System and prepare memos and other documents regarding case dispositions
Maintain all case files, evidence and computer files. Prepare memos regarding progress of cases and case dispositions
Represent NYCHA in Applicant Appeal actions
Represent NYCHA in Small Claims Court actions

Qualification

Litigation experienceHousing Law knowledgeCriminal Law knowledgeCommunication skillsWork independently

Required

Graduation from an accredited United States law school as defined in the Rules of the New York Court of Appeals (Sections 520.3 or 520.5) or admission to the New York State Bar

Preferred

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Litigation experience
Knowledge and background in Housing Law, HUD Regulations, Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure
Ability to work Independently with minimal direction self-starter
