The Underground Construction Intern will gain hands-on experience in the underground construction industry by assisting with daily operations, observing field activities, and learning about project coordination and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

Report to work on time

Observe and assist crews with underground utility installation

Participate in daily safety meetings and learn safe worksite practices

Help take field photos, notes, and simple measurements under supervision

Assist with organizing project documents, drawings, and reports

Learn to read and interpret basic construction plans and maps

Support data entry and recordkeeping for project tracking

Shadow engineers, inspectors, and field supervisors to learn about equipment, materials, and construction processes

Complete learning assignments related to construction methods, safety, and career development

Required

Currently enrolled in high school (Junior or Senior preferred) or College

Effective written and verbal communication skills

Ability to take accurate notes and measurements under supervision

Basic math and problem-solving skills applicable to construction tasks

Strong organizational and time management abilities

Interest and willingness to learn about construction tools, materials, and techniques

Ability to follow directions and work safely in an active construction environment

Ability to observe and learn from field and office professionals

Capability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with team members

Willingness to ask questions and seek clarification to enhance learning

Ability to adapt to changing tasks and priorities throughout the workday

Raise objects up to 25 lbs

Remain upright on feet for extended periods
