Responsibilities
Oversees hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions for Clinical Lab Medical Assistants
Ensures staff competency through observation, documentation, and ongoing coaching
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of testing methods, instrumentation, and laboratory technologies
Consults on unusual test results and ensures accurate reporting of medical or testing errors
Communicates critical lab values promptly to providers and care teams
Manages reagent preparation, quality assurance, calibrations, and preventive maintenance
Troubleshoots equipment issues and out-of-range results; validates and evaluates new instruments
Maintains adequate supplies, organized workspaces, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards
Oversees post-analytic processes, including report distribution and specimen management
Participates in proficiency testing, process improvement initiatives, and budget discussions
Writes and updates laboratory policies, procedures, and training documentation
Performs duties of a Clinical Lab Medical Assistant as needed
Qualification
Required
Compassionate and caring bedside manner
Excellent attention to detail and ability to balance competing priorities
Strong written and verbal communication
BLS Certificate required
Preferred
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology preferred or equivalent experience
Certification/Licensure as a Medical Lab Technologist by ASCP(American Society for Clinical Pathology) or higher strongly preferred
