Senior Traffic Engineer (Civil Engineer III)
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is responsible for developing and coordinating transportation policies and projects. They are seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to assist in Traffic Engineering design and review activities, ensuring all projects adhere to MassDOT standards and policies.

Responsibilities
Assist the Traffic Design Supervisor in all aspects of Traffic Engineering design and review activities
Review engineering plans, designs, specifications, and other documents for MassDOT transportation projects, and Access Permit Plans in accordance with sound engineering principles and practices, and applicable regulations and standards, to ensure they conform to MassDOT standards, policies, and procedures
Review transportation analyses, planning studies, intersection control evaluations, functional design reports, and similar traffic studies for MassDOT transportation projects, Access Permits, private developments in the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) process, etc. Identify any traffic or safety issues and ensure adherence to State guidelines and schedules
Assist in the design and review of traffic and safety components of MassDOT in-house design projects
Supervise the activities of subordinates in the Traffic and Safety Engineering Section to ensure efficient and timely completion of assignments
Plan and assign work to subordinates according to the nature of the job to be accomplished. Review the performance of subordinate employees in accordance with EPRS
Review design comments, letters, and technical memoranda prepared by subordinates to ensure accuracy of technical details and overall quality
Prepare and/or review plans, specifications and cost estimates for engineering projects
Participate in the planning, design and technical review or capital budget building projects
Review the work performed by contractors on traffic projects
Attend various project meetings, including coordination, scoping, pre-25%, alternatives, comment resolution, etc
Perform other work as required
Qualification
Required
At least four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical or professional experience in civil engineering work in such areas as construction, survey, design, transportation, hydraulics, structural, sanitary, drafting, environmental, highway, architectural, airport, soils and materials
At least two years of the required experience must have been in a professional capacity
Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License may be required
Preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience with project design and/or review
Experience in traffic signal design and operation
