Responsibilities

Manage and oversee the accurate and timely processing of multi-state weekly payroll for all employees

Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of 2 payroll professionals, ensuring high performance and a collaborative work environment

Ensure payroll processes comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including wage and hour, tax filings and reporting

Administer and optimize payroll systems (UKG and Workday), ensuring data integrity, system upgrades, and troubleshooting

Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure accurate payroll-related entries, reconciliations, and reporting

Manage and maintain accurate employee tax setups, including multi-state requirements

Identify and implement improvements in payroll and time management processes, policies, and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy

Prepare and review payroll reports for internal stakeholders and external audits

Conduct regular audits of payroll data to ensure compliance, accuracy, and integrity

Develop and provide training materials and lead time management training as scheduled and as needed to employees and managers

Required

Minimum of 10 years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 3 years in a management role

Experience processing payroll in Workday

Deep understanding of multi-state payroll regulations and tax compliance, including California (CA) law

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills

Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive data with confidentiality

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general ledger systems

Familiarity with integrating payroll systems with accounting, benefits and HR systems

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred (and/or equivalent years of experience)

CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification is a plus

Experience in process improvement initiatives related to payroll

Experience with implementation of new payroll systems highly desired
