Responsibilities

Assist other network engineers with lifecycle replacement of older Nokia switch and router equipment throughout our nationwide network

Plan and coordinate wireless access point expansions

Create and update documentation and drawings of existing network structure and components

Ensure network device configurations are backed up and discoverable

Design and create projects for new fiber optic construction and to new and existing MidAmerican Energy facilities, including service centers and substations

Identify and test current network conditions and provide recommendations to ensure that the voice and data network infrastructure is positioned to meet business requirements

Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned

Required

Strong understanding of IP ports, protocols, network traffic analysis, network security strategies and troubleshooting techniques

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - ability to break a large system down into individual components and determine where a problem lies

Strong analysis and design skills involving the ability to gather data on systems issues, define alternative approaches, assess business impact, recommend cost effective solutions, and develop and implement those solutions

Strong knowledge of current networking technologies, tools, applications and vendors

Effective oral and written communication skills

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently

College student, sophomore or higher standing in a bachelor's degree program or final year of an associate's degree in information technology or computer science

Must be available May-August 2026

Preferred

Experience with network discovery and documentation tools such as CiscoWorks and Microsoft Visio is a plus

Experience configuring and maintaining these technologies in a large business environment is a plus

Energy industry work experience is a plus
