Field Engineer/Field Geologist

ConeTec is an international full-service geo-environmental and geotechnical site characterization contractor. The Field Engineer or Field Geologist will operate specialized equipment for environmental site investigations, assist in data collection and reporting, and ensure adherence to safety protocols while working in various locations across North America.

Responsibilities

Familiarize with and operate High Resolution Site Characterization tools for environmental site investigations, SCPTu equipment, VST, MASW, numerous geophysical instruments and other in-situ testing equipment safely and productively
Become trained, company-certified and competent to operate numerous types of geotechnical site testing equipment and other pieces of equipment within our extensive fleet
Organize logistics for the mobilization and demobilization of equipment in hard-to-access environments
Perform routine maintenance on various pieces of equipment to ensure optimal performance
Perform testing to collect data in a timely, orderly and accurate manner
Compile the collected data, sample logs, etc. daily and submit to the Engineer/Supervisor and/or client for further processing
Collect field notes and photos to guarantee the translation of data from the field to the office is as highly accurate as possible
Prepare and compile final field reports
Identify with and respect ConeTec’s safety culture, first and foremost
Ensure proper preparation and knowledge of all necessary safe operating procedures before beginning any job
Report any safety-related incidents, infractions, or near misses to the Project Manager and the HSE Officer, immediately
Know and follow the incident reporting protocol at all times
Communicate with the Supervisor or Project Manager as to any equipment problems or needs, as well as any field observations that might be of use
Perform other shop functions as required

Required

Must possess a strong work ethic and professionally represent the company
Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Must be responsible and work well independently or in a team setting with minimal supervision
Must enjoy working outdoors and travelling for extended periods
Must enjoy performing a wide variety of duties and be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities
Strong decision-maker with the ability to work independently in remote locations
Must be flexible and capable of taking on a variety of roles as required by business needs
Flexibility with schedule and variable workloads
Must possess a safety-oriented mindset and get onboard with strong safety culture at ConeTec
Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, moving heavy materials up to 50 lbs., climbing, crawling as well as walking on uneven ground, working long hours in all weather conditions
Identify with and respect ConeTec's safety culture, first and foremost

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in engineering, Applied Science, Geology, Geophysics or Related Fields
Knowledgeable in a wide range of ConeTec's testing types and mechanically inclined
Mechanics and problem-solving skills
Driver's license and clean driving record
Experience driving pickup trucks or other large vehicles
Previous field experience
Electrical and mechanical technical skills
Data processing and report preparation skills
Occasional long days of 12+ hours, frequently 10+ hours
Approximately 30% out of town work
