Designer II Civil/Structural
Zachry Nuclear Engineering, Inc. is currently seeking a Designer II, Civil/Structural & Mechanical for a direct hire position. The Designer II will be responsible for developing structural diagrams, producing complex engineering drawings, and ensuring accuracy in design documentation while collaborating with project engineers and customers.

Responsibilities
Understand and develop structural diagrams such as pipe and conduit support configurations and details, foundation designs, equipment mounting details, general arrangements, fire stops and seals details, process, and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), piping plan and section diagrams, and isometrics
Produce complex engineering drawings in a 2-D or 3-D environment
Check drawings for accuracy including dimensions, spelling, drafting standards and completeness utilizing correct project design criteria
Participate in field walk downs, as necessary, to obtain measurements, verify as-built documentation, and develop field sketches in support of plant modifications and design installations
Communicate with project engineers and other disciplines to develop drawings and resolve design discrepancies
Interface with the customer and their construction representatives to integrate designs to satisfy their standards
Exercise independent judgment to develop designs with minimal direction from Design Supervisor, Design Lead or Engineering and will concurrently support multiple projects
Perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, to include climbing ladders, working at heights, carrying equipment up to 50 pounds, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous areas
Qualification
Required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
A demonstrated ability to direct drafting personnel on drawing assignments is required
Proficient in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation CAD software packages (or an equivalent software package) and Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, etc. is required with competency in software applications for email and databases
Demonstrated technical knowledge of design practices, codes, and standards applicable to structural components is required
Position also requires a working knowledge of structural steel types and materials as they are available in the industry
A working knowledge of mechanical design principles and practices is required
Effective time management skills are required as position may involve working on several projects concurrently
Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted commercial nuclear plant access is required
Successful candidate will be required to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes
Overtime work is required
Travel to client sites is required with periods of field/office work
Position requires individual to exercise independent judgment to develop designs with minimal direction from Design Supervisor, Design Lead or Engineering and will concurrently support multiple projects
Ability to perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, to include climbing ladders, working at heights, carrying equipment up to 50 pounds, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous (e.g. high temperatures, high radiation) areas is required
Associates Degree in drafting, design or engineering technology or 4 years of equivalent experience in the design of structural components and/or mechanical systems is required
5 years (minimum) of experience is required in structural engineering design and/or mechanical system design practices in addition to the education requirements
Preferred
Knowledge or use of Raster Design or 3D modeling experience is a plus
Field experience using a terrestrial laser scanner and survey equipment is desirable
Recent plant modification package development and/or field experience on nuclear power plant projects is a plus
