Quality – Automation / Controls Engineer
Polaris Inc. is a global leader in powersports, known for its innovative products and commitment to quality. The Quality – Automation / Controls Engineer will provide engineering support, manage automated quality programs, and address quality issues at the production facility.
Responsibilities
Manage efficient and on time installation of new automated inspection systems, including physical hardware installation, network and software setup
Oversee installation of control systems on new and/or existing equipment
Make programming changes that are required to maintain and improve the manufacturing process
Analyze and recommend improvement to manufacturing processes, which will benefit from automation techniques
Participate in prioritization and planning of automated inspection targets, including new inspection requests stemming from PFMEA and Engineering requirements
Train and validate automated quality inspections; collect and edit video, tag OK and NOK conditions and update production devices
Analyze production limitations and standards; recommend specification revs when indicated
Assists in the specification of inspection methods, testing mechanisms and equipment
Participate or lead failure analysis, root cause and corrective action investigations
Develop, manage and report on internal process quality metrics; identify opportunities for continuous improvement and lead improvement initiatives
Communicate production issues/problems/concerns to Quality and Operations leadership
Participate in new product launch teams. Assist in design for manufacturing efforts
Perform Six Sigma Measurement System Analysis (MSA/GR&R) and process capability studies. Perform DOE if required
Support all other Polaris quality initiatives and programs as required
Qualification
Required
3-5 years of experience in Quality, Manufacturing, Process Engineering required
Previous experience implementing and maintaining automated quality solutions required
Ability to work in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment
Ability to lead technicians in testing and inspection methods for plant quality processes
Ability to read, interpret and improve engineering drawings
Strong process improvement skills, including PFMEA, control plan, root cause (8D), DOE, gage R&R, product failure analysis
Allen Bradley PLCs. Specifically ControlLogix and MicroLogix
Allen Bradley Panelview plus HMIs
Allen Bradley VFDs
Troubleshooting and commissioning fieldbus networks (Ethernet/IP and DeviceNet)
Experience in the implementation of Lean Manufacturing
Leadership experience with hourly and salaried subordinates
Must be a self-starter and able to work independently without supervision
Bachelor's Degree Electrical Engineering
Preferred
Advanced degree preferred
Strong computer programming skills preferred (Python, Linux OS); data analytic skills a plus (Alteryx, Power BI)
Leading teams in Six Sigma projects; Black Belt training or certification is a strong plus
