Responsibilities
Lead, plan, train, and review the work of staff responsible for performing routine and non-complex service and repair work on a variety of equipment and vehicles in an assigned department
Oversee the preparation of fleet vehicles for daily service
Run errands; retrieve parts, tools and other materials needed for mechanical repair; pick up and deliver vehicles and equipment from various locations such as outside garages, body shops, vendors, and dealers
Perform routine preventive maintenance of cars and trucks; fuel, grease and lubricate automobiles, trucks and heavy automotive equipment; ensure appropriate fluid levels
Install and service batteries, spark plugs, light bulbs, fan belts and other simple mechanical parts
Service automotive equipment with gasoline, alternative fuel, and oil; keep records of amounts used
Perform service calls; make temporary repairs; pick up parts; road test vehicles to ensure proper operation
Oversee the probe data, collecting and securing of all revenue collected from fare boxes; check the operation of the various electronic systems in vehicles and fuel as needed
Clean and repair shop and equipment
Assist in general maintenance and cleanliness of the automotive shop area
Qualification
Required
One year of experience performing automotive servicing work
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months of hire a North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver's License with passenger and air brake endorsements and ability to maintain insurability
