Data Center Infrastructure Engineer
Proof Group is a digital asset and emerging technology investment firm that operates critical infrastructure at scale. The Data Center Infrastructure Engineer will lead the physical infrastructure operations, managing a 250-server R&D facility and ensuring high standards in building and operating the infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Build and operate physical infrastructure
Rack, stack, and cable servers, switches, and power distribution
Own hardware inventory, spares, and vendor relationships
Troubleshoot failures and coordinate replacements
Manage facility operations: power, cooling, physical security, access
Configure and maintain switching infrastructure and out-of-band management
Implement VLANs, BGP, and IP address management
Document topology and keep diagrams current
Coordinate with upstream providers on connectivity
Partner with engineers on bare metal provisioning automation
Integrate IPMI/BMC, PXE boot, and inventory systems
Validate new hardware before production deployment
Find ways to reduce manual work through better tooling
Qualification
Required
3+ years hands-on in data centers or colocation environments
Real experience racking servers, running structured cabling, troubleshooting hardware
Working knowledge of networking: switching, routing, VLANs, BGP fundamentals
Comfortable with Linux and remote management (IPMI, iLO, iDRAC)
Can work independently—you'll often be the only one on-site
High standards for your own work
Strongly prefer Bay-Area based applicants
Preferred
Network automation experience (Ansible, Netbox, Nautobot)
Familiarity with bare metal provisioning (MAAS, Tinkerbell, Foreman, Ironic)
Scripting in Python or Bash
GPU or high-performance compute infrastructure background
Power distribution and capacity planning experience
