Infrastructure Technician / AS1259P

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is seeking an Infrastructure Technician responsible for the maintenance and development of the College's network infrastructure components. The role involves managing network hardware, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and supporting the Network Administrator with various tasks and projects.

Responsibilities

Maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot, and repair network hardware and interfaces for students and employees
Document and update physical and logical camera layouts and device configurations
Troubleshoot and resolve general network connectivity issues
Offer timely and effective solutions while minimizing downtime for users
Utilize network management and monitoring tools
Serve as a primary point of contact for camera and access management systems
As issues arise this position will be the liaison between the police chiefs and the Technology and Research division
Quarterly cleaning and inspection of each camera on the campuses
Reports from these inspections will be prepared and delivered to the individual campuses for review with any recommended action items
Any malfunctioning equipment will be reported to the police chiefs AND the Director, Network and Infrastructure Services
Ongoing maintenance of all hardware and software that control the security cameras
Maintain video storage devices and maintain available storage per minimum required days of recordings per college policy
Advising of impending necessary upgrades
Advising Police Chiefs of possible improvements
Ethernet and fiber optic cabling as it relates to the camera/CATV infrastructure
Assist with configuration deployments and troubleshooting regarding cameras
Ensure recordings are being saved daily
Maintains user permissions to Camera Management Software
Maintaining Cable Television Distribution facilities at each campus
Monitoring on a weekly basis to confirm that each of the channels on the systems is functioning properly
Continuous professional development regarding security camera and cable television distribution technologies
Primary point of contact for building door access installations, configurations, and troubleshooting
Maintains door access infrastructure hardware and administrative software
Primary point of contact for card access credential troubleshooting
Technology and Research liaison for cabling vendors for add/move/change requests for network infrastructure
Utilizes college ticketing software to respond to requests and track work completed
The application of systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users, to determine hardware, software or system functional specifications
The design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing or modification of computer systems or programs, including prototypes, based on and related to user or system design specifications
Other duties as assigned
Manage and prioritize technical support tickets submitted via an online ServiceNow ticketing system
Triage and assign cases in a timely manner to the appropriate technical team
Accurately log, update, and close support cases, ensuring detailed documentation of each issue and resolution
Follow up on open tickets to ensure successful resolution
Track, monitor, and main ain accurate data in Asset Panda Inventory Management System
Ensure all network related inventory assets are accounted for, properly documented, and easily retrievable
Develop and conduct a variety of training sessions for college employees on technology usage and best practices
Maintain quality technical documentation and resources to support users and facilitate knowledge sharing
Continuously improve technical knowledge through training, workshops, and self-study
Communicate effectively with users to ensure that they are informed of the status of their requests and that their technical issues are resolved to satisfaction
Work closely with other technical teams within the Division of Technology & Research to escalate complex issues and share knowledge of common problems and solutions
Ability to work within strict deadlines and manage tickets in a high-pressure environment
Assume responsibility for special assignments initiated by administration or stakeholders
Adhere to all policies, procedures, and laws governing employees of the institution
Perform all other duties as assigned by your supervisor

Required

Minimum of an Associate Degree in a technical field, or 5 years' experience working in an enterprise or campus networking and camera management related environment
Ability to work at extreme heights
Experience with ethernet cabling; including connectors, patch panels, and connectivity troubleshooting
Experience working with Microsoft Office Productivity Suite
Willingness to travel to multiple campuses
Excellent oral and written communication skills in both technical and non-technical environments
Physically able to complete minimal tasks related to the position, including lifting 50 lbs., climbing stairs and ladders
Must have a valid driver's license

Preferred

Network+ Certification, Camera Management or Microsoft Certifications
Prior work experience with cable television distribution systems
Software, hardware and network troubleshooting and problem resolution experience
Prior work experience with building access control systems
