Responsibilities

You will perform technical and administrative duties of an Occupational Health Technician
You will support the industrial hygiene program
You will conduct industrial hygiene monitoring surveys at various commands and activities to assess work practices and environmental conditions for hazards to the safety and health of workers, and to detect violations of published health hazards
You will perform sampling of potential health hazardous exposures to chemical, physical, and biological stressors in a variety of workplaces
You will review files for previously collected data, plan/manage sample collection in accordance with assigned monitoring programs, and coordinate monitoring efforts with serviced command personnel
You will enter and maintain current DOEHRS records on all assigned personal sampling equipment
You will record data, prepare and send samples to the appropriate laboratory for analysis

Required

Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
This is a bargaining unit position
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time
Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience and practical knowledge of industrial hygiene concepts, principles and practices applicable to the design and performance of industrial hygiene surveys and exposure monitoring
Experience utilizing Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System (DOEHRS-IH)
Experience performing sampling of potential health hazardous exposures to chemical, physical, and biological stressors in a variety of workplaces
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7
