Data Center Electrical Design Engineer

Responsibilities
Act as the primary electrical design authority for Applied Digital Data Center projects
Own and maintain electrical design standards, basis of design (BOD) templates, and reference architectures
Define design requirements for medium-voltage and low-voltage power distribution systems, grounding and bonding, protection schemes, and redundancy philosophies
Approve deviations from established electrical standards and document technical justifications
Perform detailed reviews of electrical design deliverables at all project phases (concept, schematic, design development, IFC)
Evaluate designs produced by third-party engineering firms, EPCs, and equipment vendors for compliance with Applied Digital standards, codes, and best practices
Identify design risks related to safety, constructability, maintainability, and operational reliability
Provide clear, actionable review comments and participate in resolution of design issues
Partner with Mechanical, Controls, Network, and Architectural SMEs to ensure coordinated, integrated Data Center designs
Support Construction and Commissioning teams by resolving design-related questions, RFIs, and field-driven design clarifications
Collaborate with Operations teams to ensure designs align with real-world operational needs and maintenance strategies
Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, IEC, NESC, UL, local AHJs, etc.)
Serve as a technical resource during AHJ interactions, utility coordination, and third-party peer reviews
Stay current on emerging technologies, codes, and industry trends relevant to hyperscale and high-density Data Centers
Incorporate lessons learned from construction and operations back into electrical design standards
Support long-term Data Center platform strategy, including scalability for AI, HPC, and high-density computing loads
Contribute to executive-level technical decision-making and capital planning discussions
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience, with significant exposure to Data Center or mission-critical facility design
Deep expertise in Data Center electrical systems, including: Utility interconnections and substations, Medium-voltage distribution, UPS systems and battery technologies, Generators and paralleling switchgear, Low-voltage distribution and branch circuitry, Grounding, bonding, and protection systems
Proven experience reviewing and governing third-party engineering designs
Strong understanding of constructability, commissioning, and operational impacts of design decisions
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Experience supporting hyperscale, AI, or high-density Data Center environments
Experience working directly with EPC firms, utilities, and AHJs
Familiarity with international codes and standards for global Data Center deployments
