Plan Examiner
Bureau Veritas is a global leader in Testing, Inspection, and Certification services, and they are seeking a Plans Examiner to ensure the safety, compliance, and quality of construction projects. The role involves conducting thorough reviews of building and construction plans to ensure compliance with relevant building codes and regulations.
Responsibilities
Review construction plans, specifications, and calculations for compliance with building codes, zoning regulations, and other applicable standards
Evaluate structural integrity, fire & life safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency of proposed building designs
Assess mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to ensure functionality, efficiency, and compliance with relevant codes
Communicate with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to resolve plan deficiencies and provide technical guidance
Prepare detailed reports outlining review findings, code violations, and recommended corrections
Participate in meetings and consultations with internal staff and external stakeholders to discuss project requirements and review processes
Stay updated on changes in building codes, regulations, and industry standards to ensure accurate plan assessments
Collaborate with other departments, such as zoning and fire departments, to address interdisciplinary aspects of plan reviews
Represent the department and interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders, fostering positive and cooperative working relationships and promoting a culture of compliance and safety
Perform assigned duties within the supported agency’s guidance, culture, and approach
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
State of California PE License Required
ICC Plans Examiner License Required
Experience - Three years of increasingly responsible experience in structural design and/or plan checking or construction project management
Education - Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major work in structural engineering, civil engineering, architecture or a closely related field
Possession of a certificate of registration as a professional engineer or as a licensed architect in the State of California
Consideration will be made for those who have passed the FE exam and have obtained the EIT Certification / License
Certification as a Residential and Building Plans Examiner, as issued by the International Code Council, is required
Strong knowledge of building codes, zoning laws, and regulatory requirements
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective communication abilities, both written and verbal
Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Proficiency in using computer-aided design (CAD) software, Blue Beam Revu and other plan review tools
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to inspection sites as required
