TITLE 32 SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (MI SMO - UTES)

The MI UTES, part of the Michigan Army National Guard, is seeking a Surface Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor. This position provides overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities and functions, ensuring effective resource allocation and compliance with safety and operational standards.

Responsibilities

Plans on a quarterly or longer basis, the overall use of subordinate personnel and resources under their control
Determines resource requirements, materials, the number of subordinates and the types of skill necessary to accomplish long-range work schedules
Allocates resources and distributes work to organizational segments or groups under their control
Assigns and explains work requirements and operating instructions to subordinate supervisors, sets deadlines, and establishes the sequence of work operations to be followed
Maintains balanced workloads by shifting assignments, workers, and other resources to achieve the most effective work operations
Assures that subordinate supervisors effectively carry out policies to achieve management objectives
Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordinate supervisors, makes formal appraisals of their performance, and determines their training needs
Schedules leave of subordinate supervisors, reviews personnel actions, and performance appraisals initiated by them, acts on personnel problems referred by subordinate supervisors, and maintains administrative records
Develops, publishes, and ensures employee compliance with standing operating procedures for the activity supervised
Implements and complies with agency, state, and federal regulatory Occupational Safety and Health, and environmental requirements
Ensures use of quality conformant products through compliance with established materials shelf life programs
Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises
May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or to serve as a team member on boards to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies
May be required to serve as a member of the Command Maintenance Evaluation Team (COMET)

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Michigan Army National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement
Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform
Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment
Applicants who are not currently a member of the Michigan Army National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Michigan Army National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement
Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service
Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation
May be required to successfully complete a trial period
Participation in direct deposit is mandatory
Must have a valid civilian driver's license
Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position
Position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position

Military Grades: CW3-O4
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-11 and above - Experience or training leading to an extensive knowledge of the mechanical makeup, operation, and working relationships of complex interconnecting systems, assemblies, and parts for a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment
Ability to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and modify interconnected complex systems on a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles, and equipment
Extensive knowledge of state of the art electrical, electronic, complex hydraulic, pneumatic, and other major non-mechanical systems that have a functional relationship and effect on the operation of major mechanical systems
Extensive knowledge of hydraulic lifting, loading, turning, and positioning systems and their mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic controls
Skill and knowledge to develop or improvise methods, alter parts, and make repairs in the absence of technical guidelines (such as modifying parts to fit and mesh into systems for which the parts were not designed); improvise modifications to equipment to correct recurring malfunctions; and design modifications to meet special test requirements or other special needs
WS (All Grade Levels) - In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel
Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines
Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function
Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes
Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations
