Environmental Health & Safety Data Management Specialist (Hybrid)
Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Data Management Specialist to provide training, support, and guidance to the research community regarding compliance with environmental and safety regulations. The role involves frequent use of environmental data management software and assisting researchers with chemical inventory data and technical support.

Responsibilities
Assist researchers and lab personnel with chemical inventory data and provide support as needed
Assist EH&S staff with technical support for the environmental data management software tool (EHS Assist)
Communicate with software vendor and other EH&S staff regarding enhancements to or technical issues with, environmental data management software tool
Update International Building Code (IBC) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and other compliance related chemical information using EHS Assist tool
Monitor Chemical Purchase Order information
Generate & run routine reports from exiting computer databases (EHS Assist, Excel)
Complete paperwork and enter information into computer programs/databases (EHS Assist, Excel) as defined by existing policy and procedure
Frequent use of the environmental data management software tool (EHS Assist), to include: Writing queries, Creating reports using report builder tool as needed procedures is expected
Interpretation of conditions encountered relative to the procedures is expected. The position requires the ability to recognize conditions beyond the scope of the procedures and to raise issues to managers or the supervisor. The position entails responsible actions that must be properly performed for WashU Medicine to maintain compliance with Federal, state, and local regulations, and could impact the ability of WashU Medicine to conduct research and medical treatment. The position requires interaction with WashU Medicine physicians, researchers, technicians, and laboratory personnel as a representative of the Environmental Health & Safety Department
Qualification
Required
Associate degree
Familiarity with, or ability to quickly learn, chemical properties and relational database design, Department of Transportation (DOT) segregation principles, International Building Code (IBC) requirements and proper storage of chemicals is required
Ability to interview database users (internal and external) to determine required and requested enhancements, and communicate those enhancements to the software vendor, is essential
Candidates must attend initial and on-going applicable regulatory training
Frequent use of the environmental data management software tool (EHS Assist) is required for this position
Ability to recognize conditions beyond the scope of the procedures and to raise issues to managers or the supervisor
Physical ability to walk to many locations each day and have the agility and dexterity to survey fairly inaccessible locations
Ability to lift and move 20 pounds, carry packages and/or portable equipment
Preferred
Bachelor's degree or combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education
