Automotive Repair Technician II

City of Norfolk is seeking an Automotive Repair Technician II for its Fleet Management Division. This role is responsible for diagnosing and repairing specialized city vehicles and equipment, focusing on refuse trucks and emergency vehicles, while also maintaining shop cleanliness and managing parts orders.

Responsibilities

Performs preventative maintenance and general repair to units classified as heavy vehicles and equipment by performing inspections, evaluating performance, and diagnosing complex problems requiring high level repairs
Diagnoses and repairs vehicles by using equipment and tools to properly locate and correct any problem areas
Performs other duties by retrieving City vehicles and towing, cleaning interior and exterior areas of the shop, ordering and picking up parts, and logging information into the computer
Inspects, sets-up, and prepares new vehicles and equipment to be placed in service
May lead, train, advise and assist less experienced personnel or subordinates
Ability to lift 75 pounds and work in dirty or hazardous areas, such as exposure to refuse and sewage trucks

Required

Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency
Two years of work experience performing automotive maintenance and repair duties
Valid CDL (Class A) Driver's License must be obtainable within six (6) months of hire

Preferred

Experience working on refuse and sewage trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles
Experience working with vehicle hydraulic systems and equipment
