ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST I

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry is committed to enhancing public safety across Arizona. They are seeking an Accounting Specialist I responsible for ensuring compliance with State, Federal, and Agency laws related to the Business Office, as well as managing accounts payable functions and resolving technical issues at the Arizona State Prison Complex - Perryville.

Responsibilities

Enters and verifies financial and other data to provide records, reports, and other information and correspondence in a systematic manner
Performs routine accounting tasks involving basic numeric calculations
Enters data in all systems related to job duties
Examines and verifies fiscal transactions such as billing invoices, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, creating requisitions and other financial documents
Keeps records and/or journal entries to include maintenance of financial records, reports, checks, and deposits
Creates, maintains, and reconciles spreadsheets
Resolves technical issues
Investigates and resolves account discrepancies
Prepares correspondences
Drives on State business
Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Required

Expert in accounting practices
Compliance with all State, Federal and Agency laws, policies and procedures pertaining to the Business Office
Responsible for accounts payable functions
Inmate Trust Accounts System (ITA) management
Resolving technical problems
Enters and verifies financial and other data
Performs routine accounting tasks involving basic numeric calculations
Enters data in all systems related to job duties
Examines and verifies fiscal transactions such as billing invoices, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, creating requisitions and other financial documents
Keeps records and/or journal entries to include maintenance of financial records, reports, checks, and deposits
Creates, maintains, and reconciles spreadsheets
Resolves technical issues
Investigates and resolves account discrepancies

Drives on State business
Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment
Knowledge of principles, concepts, and techniques of government accounting and fiscal management
Knowledge of procedures, methods, and office equipment used in statistical record-keeping
Knowledge of general office procedures
Knowledge of computer software to include Microsoft Office and Google Suite
Skill in written and verbal communication
Skill in prioritizing and organizing tasks
Skill in operating various office equipment and automated accounting systems
Skill in 10-Key/calculator
Skill in techniques required to maintain accounting records through automated accounting systems
Skill in establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships
Ability to accurately work with numbers and complete mandated reports in required formats
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and situations
Ability to research and compile fiscal and statistical information
Ability to interpret ADCRR policies as they pertain to accounting
Ability to work in a prison environment
Employment is contingent on passing a background investigation and a drug test
All employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter
Possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license if driving is required
Complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks
Maintain acceptable driving records if driving on state business
Complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify)

Preferred

One (1) year of experience in governmental accounting practices or one year working in the private sector business field
