Ethnic Studies Instructor, Full-Time, Tenure-Track

Responsibilities
Teach a full load (up to 15 units) of courses offered in Ethnic Studies and, as needed or required, courses offered in affiliated programs and departments such as Asian American Studies, African American Studies, Latin American & Latino/a Studies Department, and Philippine Studies. Assignments may also include courses in the following departmental programs: Ethnic Studies, Native American and Indigenous Studies, Critical Pacific Islands and Oceania Studies, Critical (Middle East) SWANA Studies, and Diversity and Social Justice
Participate in curriculum development and revision of transfer courses to 4-year universities such as CSU and UC
Coordinate several certificate and degree programs within the department such as Ethnic Studies, Diversity and Social Justice, Critical Pacific Islands and Oceania Studies, Critical SWANA (Middle East) Studies, Native American and Indigenous Studies, and Trauma, Prevention, and Recovery
Develop and teach in-person, daytime and evening, hybrid, and/or online classes at the college in special programs (dual enrollment and correctional facilities), and at other non-campus sites where CCSF classes are taught
Create, develop and maintain currency in course curriculum in conversation with impacted disciplines, multiple sections of courses, and cross-curricular departments in the Ethnic Studies and Social Justice Collaborative: Asian American Studies, Philippine Studies, African American Studies, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer Studies, Labor and Community Studies, Women's and Gender Studies, Asian Studies, Latin American and Latina/o/x/e Studies, and Disabled Students Programs and Services
May assume Department Chair responsibilities, contingent on Department election
Each term, submit Census reports and grades in a timely manner and assess and report student learning outcomes for courses taught
Assess and evaluate program needs that include opportunities to strengthen student success and equity across the department's programs. These could include, for example, speaker series, community partnerships, academic conferences, and community events
Participate in required department, division, and school meetings and attend required professional development and flex day trainings
Serve on committees of the department and cross-listed departments, and college-wide committees such as Academic Senate Committees and Participatory Governance Council (PGC) Committees
Collaborate and coordinate with other affiliated departments and offices (e.g., Office of Equity and SparkPoint); counseling and retention programs such as UMOJA/African American Scholastic Program (AASP), VASA (Oceania) Student Success Program; and resource centers on joint projects, initiatives, events, and activities
Serve as a liaison with San Francisco and Bay Area communities connected to the department's programs, including student organizations, multicultural retention programs, academic departments, and community-based organizations. Participate on, or act as an informal member of, advisory committees for affiliated departments, programs, and centers at CCSF, as well as within the broader San Francisco community
Actively publicize and develop awareness of and interest in Ethnic Studies and Interdisciplinary Studies courses within the college and in the larger San Francisco community
Participate in educational organizations related to Ethnic Studies
Participate in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racist pedagogy
Cultivate, foster, and engage in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, equity-based and anti-racist pedagogies and practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps
Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor/department chair
Qualification
Required
Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
Master's in African-American/Black/Africana Studies or Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicana/o Studies, or Asian-American Studies, or Native American/ American Indian Studies OR Master's in Ethnic Studies OR THE EQUIVALENT
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in the appropriate interdisciplinary area
Preferred
Ph.D. or advanced graduate coursework beyond the Master's Degree with concentration or specialization in Ethnic Studies
Demonstrated community college teaching experience in Ethnic Studies, or one of the related disciplines. Demonstrated experience teaching in-person, hybrid, online, and dual-enrollment and other special programs
Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience developing course content and materials in Ethnic Studies, for transfer to CSUs and UCs
Demonstrated experience working with diverse students to build leadership skills, promote goal-setting, support retention, and facilitate successful return-to-school pathways
Experience working with diverse communities, including individuals of varied racial, ethnic, cultural, social, and disability backgrounds and sexual orientations
Experience with and knowledge of community-based organizations, faith-based institutions, and community action groups
Understanding and knowledge of best practices to close the achievement and equity gaps
Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education, along with a commitment to addressing and rectifying policies and practices that limit access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students
Published research or professional articles which reflects an understanding and knowledge of historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted communities
Demonstrated knowledge of, and training in, culturally relevant, culturally responsive, and equity-based pedagogical approaches
