Merget is a seed-stage developer tools startup building infrastructure for AI-assisted software development. They are seeking a Founding Software Engineer to design and build tools for version control, develop cross-platform applications, and define technical architecture.

Responsibilities

Design and build CLI tools for version control and repository management

Develop cross-platform desktop applications using Tauri or Electron with Vue.js or React

Implement high-performance file system watching, indexing, and real-time change detection

Create local data versioning and storage engines

Build cross-platform installers and auto-update systems

Integrate desktop and CLI applications with cloud backend APIs

Design and implement authentication, data serialization, and sync mechanisms

Build VS Code extension for inline data visualization

Collaborate on API contracts and data models with backend engineers

Implement secure local storage and encryption for sensitive data

Define technical architecture and make technology decisions

Establish coding standards, testing frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines

Contribute to technical documentation

Ship production-ready features on aggressive timelines

Required

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field with 1+ years of professional software development experience, OR Master's degree in Computer Science or related field

Advanced or Expert-level proficiency in Rust and/or Go (Golang) for production systems development

Strong understanding of file system operations, process management, and OS-level APIs

Experience with cross-platform development (macOS, Windows, Linux)

Proficiency in Vue.js or React for frontend development

Solid understanding of full-stack web development (HTTP, REST APIs, WebSockets)

Experience with Git internals or version control systems

Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript
