Electrical Systems Design Engineer
Applied Engineering, Inc. is seeking a motivated and hardworking individual to join their team as an Electrical Systems Design Engineer. The role involves designing AC electrical systems for power distribution equipment and developing technical documentation to support manufacturing and compliance.

Responsibilities
Design AC electrical systems for power distribution equipment, including switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, loadbanks, and generators
Develop schematics, layouts, and technical documentation to support manufacturing, testing, certification, and customer requirements
Validate electrical system designs to ensure performance, safety, and compliance with NEC, UL, and other industry standards
Select and qualify electrical components based on technical requirements and regulatory standards
Define safe and effective prototype testing practices for new and existing products
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure design accuracy and project alignment
Deliver innovative, compliant electrical system solutions that meet rigorous safety and performance expectations
Work closely with suppliers and Applied partners to support design, validation, and production readiness
Work collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partners across southern Minnesota
Contribute to projects that impact communities in Faribault, Northfield, Owatonna, Waseca, and the greater Twin Cities

Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
2–3+ years of mechanical design experience, ideally in power distribution or electromechanical systems
Proficiency with SolidWorks for modeling, assemblies, and detailed drawings
Experience interpreting customer specifications and site requirements to develop mechanical solutions
Knowledge of mechanical design best practices, including safety, manufacturability, and compliance
Experience creating technical documentation to support manufacturing, testing, and certification
Ability to commute to Faribault, MN, as needed
Experience with switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, load banks, or related power distribution equipment
Familiarity with UL standards such as UL 1008, UL 508, and UL 1640
Experience with ERP, PLM, and engineering vault systems for managing design documentation and BOMs
Background in process improvement, modularization, or design automation
Preferred
Project management experience, including coordinating cross-functional teams and tracking deliverables, strongly preferred
