SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST (SPECIALIST)

The Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) will lead complex projects, ensuring compliance with environmental laws and regulations while analyzing the impacts of transportation systems on environmental resources.

Responsibilities
Prepare and review environmental documents to ensure accordance with scientific principles and compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations, including the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA)
Identify, quantify, and analyze the environmental impacts of transportation systems, corridors, and projects on environmental resources and formulate measures to mitigate biological and land use impacts
Gather data on natural resources, such as plants, animals, and aquatic resources
Perform complex environmental analysis, research, surveys, investigations, and studies
Prepare reports
Prepare routine correspondence with internal and external partners
Answer questions from the public
Prepare regulatory and compliance documents
Review documents prepared by external partners and consultants to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental laws and regulations, as well as Departmental policy and standards
Qualification
Required
Possession of a valid driver's license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle
The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) serves as documentation of each applicant's ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing
Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment
If you are basing your eligibility on education, you must include your unofficial transcript(s)/diploma for verification
Unofficial, original, or official sealed transcripts will be accepted and may be required upon appointment
Applicants with foreign transcripts/degrees must provide a transcript/degree U.S. equivalency report evaluation that indicates the number of units and degree to which the foreign coursework is equivalent
