MILITARY PAY TECHNICIAN (RETIRED PAY)

The Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) is responsible for leading the Department of Defense in finance and accounting. They are seeking a Military Pay Technician to conduct comprehensive audits of pay accounts, resolve entitlement questions, and correct adjustments related to retired pay compensation.

Responsibilities

Pay actions involve the comprehensive audit of pay accounts, correction, and adjustment of several items of pay
In-depth research, and application of prior pay laws, regulations and entitlements and application of precedent setting interpretations occurs
Resolve questions of entitlement to additional retired pay compensation
Correct and adjust retired pay due to retroactive legislative adjustments which affect benefits due from other agencies
Determine applicability of payments, and initiates collection of overpayments as necessary
Duties will be developmental in nature when the position is filled below the full performance level

Background or Security Investigation - Position Sensitivity and Security Levels may vary and is dependent upon position being filled
Registered for Selective Service (males born after 12-31-1959)
Suitable for Federal employment
Obtain/Maintain Financial Management Certification
Applicants MUST have related financial experience AND/OR a related financial degree (examples include: Finance, Accounting, Management, Actuarial Science, or related)
Substitution of combination of education and experience must still, in conjunction, minimally satisfy the DHA qualification requirement
To be hired at the GS-5 entry grade level, applicants must minimally have: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-04) within the federal service
Specialized experience is defined as: performing duties that support the processing of financial/accounting transactions using standardized procedures that may include reviewing financial/accounting systems information/documents for accuracy/completeness, inputting financial/accounting information into automated systems, or correcting invalid financial/accounting transactions
To be hired at the GS-6 entry grade level, applicants must minimally have: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-05) within the federal service
Specialized experience is defined as: reviewing and processing a wide variety of complex, non-recurring payroll transactions, and resolving problems within automated pay accounts, experience must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of a wide-range of payroll actions, regulations, policies and procedures
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
