Senior Systems Engineer

The Sr. Systems Engineer is responsible for standing up, securing, and maintaining AWS GovCloud IL6 environments to support PLM software implementations for the Department of Defense, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate business and security requirements into technical solutions.

Responsibilities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business & security requirements and translate them into technical solutions
Build and maintain ETL data pipelines using AWS Glue, ensuring efficient movement and transformation of structured and unstructured data across secure DoD environments
Administer AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS (Oracle/PostgreSQL), Secrets Manager, CloudWatch, and IAM with a focus on automation, compliance, and performance
Design and manage containerized environments, leveraging tools like Kubernetes (e.g., RKE2), Docker, and Rancher for orchestration, scalability, and persistent storage solutions
Utilize Ansible playbooks for automation, and secure applications with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), managing TLS/SSL certificates, and enforcing secure authentication mechanisms
Responsible for administering RDS Oracle and RDS PostgreSQL databases, including initial data seeding, schema configurations, running scripts, query execution for troubleshooting, and optimizing database performance for application-specific needs
Support installing and performing upgrades of PLM application software, applying critical patch sets, and fixing security vulnerabilities on a regular basis with all infrastructure and applications included in the technical stack
Conduct comprehensive testing, including unit, integration, and system testing ensuring application infrastructure and performance is maintained
Support debug and resolution of complex application/customization defects and issues that may require performance and infrastructure related investigations and solutions
Develop and maintain technical documentation and architecture diagrams to support ATO documentation and team knowledge sharing
Mentor junior team members and provide technical leadership in planning, architecture, and incident response
Qualification
Required
Active U.S. DoD security clearance
Current Security + certification
Currently hold relevant AWS certifications
Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, software engineering, or other engineering discipline
Minimum 5 years of experience working with and setting up AWS cloud services to host and integrate enterprise applications
Hands-on experience operating in an IL6-certified environment in compliance with DoD security frameworks (e.g., RMF, STIGs)
Experience creating and maintaining AWS Glue ETL pipelines
Advanced knowledge of Ansible playbooks, infrastructure-as-code (IaC), and CI/CD practices
Experience with AWS services including EC2 (compute configurations), S3 (storage management), RDS (database administration), Fleet Manager (remote access and automation), Secrets Manager (credential security), and CloudWatch (logging, monitoring, and alerting)
Experience managing Active Directory and AppStream
Experience collaborating with AWS Technical Support
Experience setting up and working with Virtualized Environments
Experience with installation and maintenance of database systems (e.g. Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and SQL scripting
Expertise in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and Windows Server administration, including command-line
Proficiency with scripting or programming in Python, Bash, Java, or similar languages
Strong communication, documentation, and leadership skills with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
Preferred
Experience with and certifications in Agile software development methodologies
Experience with Fortify or other SAST security scanning tools
Working knowledge of secure API management, Keycloak (IAM), Confluent Kafka, and observability tools like Grafana or Kibana
Experience configuring CI/CD pipelines and code repos leveraging GIT (e.g. repo, branches, merging, conflict resolution, build hardening, testing automation, etc.)
Deployment, configuration, and maintenance of a Kubernetes Platform, including RKE2, Rancher Management, Longhorn (persistent storage), Keycloak (IAM), Confluent (Kafka), ECK (Elasticsearch/Kibana), and Grafana
Knowledge of DoD software development policies and requirements
Experience with administration of at least 1 mainstream PLM application (PTC Windchill, Arena, FlexPLM, Siemens Teamcenter, Oracle PLM, Agile PLM, etc.)
