Lead Systems Engineer (Azure - Direct Hire - Onsite - Reston, VA)
Optomi is seeking a Lead Azure Systems Engineer to own and advance cloud engineering practices within a fully Microsoft-centric enterprise. This engineering leadership role focuses on architecture, design, and modernization of Azure systems in a hybrid environment while mentoring a small team of engineers.

Responsibilities
Design, architect, and modernize Azure systems across a hybrid environment
Own cloud engineering standards, playbooks, and runbooks
Lead Azure initiatives from strategy through implementation
Drive Azure governance, cost optimization, and best practices
Act as the senior technical authority guiding 2–3 engineers
Remain hands-on (~70%) while elevating overall engineering maturity
Qualification
Required
Deep, hands-on Azure Systems Engineering experience (Azure only)
Strong background in hybrid cloud architecture (on-prem + Azure)
Expertise designing and engineering IaaS and PaaS solutions
Architecture-first mindset (not ops- or DevOps-focused)
Experience building engineering standards, runbooks, and playbooks
Ability to mentor, coach, and lead engineering practices
Preferred
Azure Fabric experience
Infrastructure as Code: Bicep and/or Terraform (ability to influence standards)
Experience modernizing hybrid environments
Cloud Architect–style leadership experience
Prior or aspiring people leadership (future manager track)
